Led the enterprise‑scale redesign of corewellhealth.org, Michigan’s largest healthcare system, modernizing information architecture and navigation during the merger of Spectrum Health and Beaumont.
In the summer of 2021, I joined Spectrum Health as Lead UX Designer at a pivotal moment: the organization was preparing for a complete digital transformation. The enterprise web experience needed to be rebuilt from the ground up, leveraging a headless CMS (Contentstack) and establishing the organization's first comprehensive design system.
This wasn't just a routine redesign — it required coordinating across multiple departments, establishing new workflows, and creating a scalable framework that could evolve with the organization. The stakes were high, as this would eventually support the transition to Corewell Health, Michigan's largest healthcare system.
I led the UX effort across marketing, development, and subject matter experts, serving as the bridge between technical implementation and user needs. My role involved guiding the creation of a scalable design framework that would unify brand identity while improving patient engagement across all digital touchpoints.
Working with a headless CMS architecture required reimagining how content and design systems work together — creating flexible, reusable components that maintain consistency while empowering content authors.
The design system became the foundation for all digital experiences, establishing patterns for navigation, information architecture, and interaction design. This framework needed to be robust enough to support both the immediate launch of spectrumhealth.org and flexible enough to accommodate the future transition to Corewell Health's combined brand.
The initiative culminated in the successful launch of the new spectrumhealth.org experience, establishing a modern, scalable digital foundation for the organization. The design system and component library became essential tools for the entire digital team, enabling consistent experiences across all properties.
When Spectrum Health and Beaumont Health merged to form Corewell Health, the flexible architecture and design system we built proved invaluable. The framework evolved to support the new brand identity and expanded digital presence, demonstrating the lasting value of building systems that can adapt to organizational change.
